What is cold process soap?
Cold process soap making is the traditional method of making real soap. The process is the method of combing Sodium Hydroxide (soda ash or lye) to oils creating a chemical reaction called saponification in which the lye is neutralized and fatty acids converted into soap. Glycerin is a naturally occurring byproduct of the soap making process and remains naturally in the cold processed soap.
Cold Process Soap vs. Milled Soap
Glycerin is a naturally occurring byproduct of the soap making process and remains naturally in the cold processed soap. This process makes a very moisturizing soap that is healthy and hydrating for the skin. In a milled soap, the glycerin is squeezed out of the soap using commercial rollers to create thin layers that are then pressed together to make a very hard bar. This process also creates a soap more drying to the skin by removing the naturally occurring and hydrating glycerin.
